1:1 Run Coaching

That big running dream you’ve been harboring? Let’s go at it together.

You’re not a cookie-cutter person, so you deserve more than just a cookie-cutter plan.

Working with a running coach gives you an expert set of eyes on your training and a cheerleader in your corner. I’ll treat your running like it’s my own – teasing through your training history with a fine-tooth comb, figuring out how we can make the best use of your precious training time, and crafting a customized training program with care and intention.

1:1 run coaching is for you, whether you:

  • Have a big, pointy running goal, like trying to quality for Boston, or run a sub-3:00, 4:00, or 5:00 marathon
  • Want to get back to structured training (and old times) again after a lay-off
  • Have been stuck at the same race times for years and need help breaking through a plateau
  • Are a completely new runner who doesn’t know where to start or how to train intelligently
  • Are pregnant or recently postpartum and want to run through your pregnancy as strong as possible, or return to running safely after having a baby

1:1 Run Coaching

My signature service and the best way to get to hyper-personalized, customized guidance.

You’re a good fit for 1:1 run coaching if:

  • You’re ready to hand over control of your training
  • You can commit to 6 or 12 months of working together
  • You have a long-haul mentality and know that success in distance running takes time
  • You’re willing to communicate with your coach and express your needs, frustrations, and provide feedback (help me to help you… coaches can’t be mind-readers!)
  • You want someone to check in with you and help hold you accountable
  • You’re excited to learn, get faster, and have a ton of fun along the way

My Process

Step 1: Fill out an application

This helps me get to know you better and what you’re looking for. The more thorough you can be, the better.

Step 2: If a good fit, we set up a call

Consult calls are 30 minutes and can take place on the phone or via Zoom. We’ll talk through your application and needs, and you can ask any questions.

Step 3: Onboarding

This is where I collect a bunch of additional info from you, get you set up into my coaching software, and start to dig into your background and plan.

Step 4: Kick-off!

FAQ about 1:1 Run Coaching

Is cross training included?

Aerobic cross training (biking, ellipticalling, swimming, etc.) is programmed if it makes sense for the individual athlete. If you’re a lower mileage runner, are coming off a recent injury, are injury prone in general, or are someone who enjoys incorporating cross training, you may be a great candidate for incorporating this regularly, and I will build this into your training plan holistically for you.

Do you provide nutrition guidance?

I provide help with basic sports nutrition – pre-run fueling, intra-run fueling (we will talk a LOT about this if you are training for a half or full marathon), hydration, and post-run fueling. I do not provide individualized nutrition guidance, like meal plans, calorie or macro targets, nor can I offer nutritional guidance for specific medical conditions. For 1:1 coaching clients who are looking for the latter, I can refer you out to a sports dietitian I trust.

I want to lose weight. Can run coaching help with that?

If losing weight is your main focus and your running goals are secondary, I recommend working with a dietitian over a running coach! I do not provide weight loss coaching, and I encourage my runners to fuel for performance.

What happens if I get injured?

Although I pride myself on having low injury rates with the runners I work with (and smart, customized training is one of the best ways to prevent injury!), occasionally injuries do happen. If you become injured during our time together, I will work with you to adjust your training and focus on what you CAN do to rebound stronger than ever. If you sustain an injury that will put you out of running for any extended period of time, we can pause coaching until you are healthy again.

Is coaching only for US-based runners?

No! I enjoy working with runners all around the world and have worked with runners from many different countries and time zones. 1:1 run coaching is an entirely virtual service, so location is not a barrier to working with me.

Do I need a GPS watch to work with you?

You absolutely do not – however, it can be very helpful, and most of my runners do end up getting a GPS watch at some point. Garmin and Coros are the two most popular brands. The more detailed data you’re able to give me, the better I can help you! GPS watches will also help YOU to better execute your workouts.
